Comedy Movies

Everyone likes to laugh and so "comedy" is a big genre at the box office. Usually comedy films are created around a specific comedian (Bill Murray and Eddie Murphy in the 80s, Adam Sandler in the 90s, Will Ferrell currently). There are, however, conceptual comedy movies that are worth looking into. Here are some well-written, well acted comedy films:

Still Crazy

This gently satirical British comedy chronicles the quixotic reunion of a late, arguably not-so-great, and unlamented '70s rock band, Strange Fruit, with a winning mix of humor and poignancy.

Blow Dry

Blow Dry strikes an balance between humor and camp. It aims for the same sort of high-wire act that Strictly Ballroom and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert pulled off so effortlessly, but melodrama wins the day.

The Full Monty

A group of unemployed Yorkshire steelworkers hopes to replenish their empty wallets and boost their flagging morale by following in the footsteps of the Chippendale's strippers.

Austin Powers (1 & 2)

Often considered the among the funniest movies of the 1990s, the first two Austin Powers movies portrayed a comic technicolor version of the 1960s--the shagadelic decade when London hipster Austin Powers scored with gorgeous chicks as a fashion photographer by day, crime-fighting international man of mystery by night.

Napoleon Dynamite

Napoleon Dynamite is an American independent film written and directed by Jared Hess. The film follows the protagonist Napoleon Dynamite, a rather slow, dorky high school student with a penchant for milk tasting, drawing, fishing for bass, and telling implausible stories.
